and ordered the NUC … with Win10Pro. I REALLY vacillated between the NUC and System 76 .. but the OS that I’m familiar with, and use every day, won in the end. It was also on sale .. and had better not drop further before years end! 🙂
This will be my ‘main’ machine and the grandkids will get the old CPU. Now .. if I could only find an ‘A/B switch box’ that would work with the monitor! [like that’s going to happen!]
Here is the info .. and I’ll let you know how it works!

Just a ‘heads up’ for all of you – flashing BIOS may cause harm!
Backstory: Laptop came with Win8.1 Installed Win10 and used Win8.1 key to upgrade to Win10Pro. Win10 Anniversary did not install well . . . any of the 3 times I tried.
Fix: HP offered BIOS update which I did. Then I installed a new SS hard drive. Next – installed Win10 ISO file and updated to Anniversary . . then updated to Creators edition.
Unfortunately, somewhere in the process, Microsoft decided to lose or ignore the ‘key’ for Win8.1 . . . . so I have the Home edition and can’t upgrade to Pro by entering the activation code for Win8.1 I used Belarc Advisor – on both my machines – and on the desktop my ‘key’ for Win7Pro is there along with a new activation code for Win10Pro-Creators. On the laptop, the Win8.1 ‘key’ is gone and trying to change/insert the activation code does not work.
So was it the flashing or missing a key step in some process — I don’t know — but I’m NOT going to undo/redo or lose sleep. Win10Home will do for the laptop.

I put the Meerkat by System76 on my Christmas wish list this year. And got it! Once I plugged it in I haven’t gone back to my windows machine. It’s been wonderful and also a challenge. I found that I could not get drivers for my old Canon printer. So after research got a new HP 6978 that was on sale. It is wireless. And I couldn’t get all the features to work. So I plugged in my old printer cable and copy/scan / double side printing and scanning worked. My next challenge is to access the data on my windows drive. and to see if my exact program will work in wine.
I am planning to bring it Saturday.
I forgot to say that the printer keeps track of the ink and ships more to you when it gets down to one-third.
