I put the Meerkat by System76 on my Christmas wish list this year. And got it! Once I plugged it in I haven’t gone back to my windows machine. It’s been wonderful and also a challenge. I found that I could not get drivers for my old Canon printer. So after research got a new HP 6978 that was on sale. It is wireless. And I couldn’t get all the features to work. So I plugged in my old printer cable and copy/scan / double side printing and scanning worked. My next challenge is to access the data on my windows drive. and to see if my exact program will work in wine.
I am planning to bring it Saturday.
I forgot to say that the printer keeps track of the ink and ships more to you when it gets down to one-third.
Time to start thinking about Holiday treats for the December meeting. Plates, bowls, napkins will be provided — the rest is up to the members.
Cookies – bars – breads – fruit – nuts – cookies – crackers – meats – cookies – fudge – donuts – cookies – chestnuts – pickled herring?
I expect about 22 people – so let us know what you plan to bring.
See you December 10, 9:00 a.m., at Sump.
My friend who was recently the victim of ransomware just sent me this link.
BTW (by the way), MalwareBytes.ORG is now MalwareBytes.COM. I hope that doesn’t signal an end to the free malware scanner!
Trying to install Win10 Anniversary edition for the 3rd time. This is my demo HP laptop that came with Win8.1 and has been running Win10 for a year. This is my 3rd try with the same result – I have a blank screen. HD lite does flash randomly – at least once every 15 seconds – so this might just be a waiting game. After each of the first 2 failed installs, it rebooted and reinstalled a previous version of Win10 and came right back to a working laptop. Read a few hints online – made certain everything was up to date, removed the wireless mouse USB hub, ran a few checks as admin and it did find and fix some file error. Went to MS web and downloaded and started the Anniversary install again. That was at 3:30p.m. And the screen went blank after the second reboot at approx 32% updating. It is now 11:15 p.m. and I’ll put a box over the screen again tonight to stop the glare, and I’ll let you know how it is in the morning. Fingers crossed 🙂
Here’s a story from The New York Times I thought you’d find interesting:

Just a quick note to let everyone know I’ve updated and added to the site “categories”. I’m trying to make the categories more targeted and descriptive of the actual content being posted.
This update is not set-in-stone, but is ongoing . . . e.g., a “work-in-progress.” If anyone can wants a category changed or added – – send me an email and we’ll look into it (the club board). Thanks!
